Africa – why should it be known as the “dark continent”?

It seems that “writing off” Africa is becoming increasingly fashionable – ridden with poverty, famine, disease, and corruption; does not have the will to improve itself; is a burden to the developed world; can only survive on food and medical aid and other hand-outs.

But why does this perception exist? Could it perhaps be that “the world” is approaching the problems of Africa from the wrong side? – trying to assist the population with the above mentioned aids while often encountering a hostile attitude from the Leaders of the country in question because their motives are seen as political rather than humanitarian? Could the answer not lie in empowering (and where necessary transforming) the Leadership to uplift not only the standard of living of their population but also their national and personal pride, in order to take control of their own destiny rather than becoming totally dependent on hand-outs from first world countries? Would it not be even better to approach the problems from both sides: Empowering the Leadership, while at the same time launching practical projects at grassroots level to empower the population to uplift themselves?

The above speculations unavoidably lead to the practical question: Is there any organisation that can achieve this seemingly impossible dream?

Allow us to introduce you to the work of Operaf

Operaf was established in 1993 to establish the Kingdom of God in the African political, economic, scientific and leadership arena by focusing on African leaders to make them agents of transformation throughout the continent. Operaf strives to proclaim the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ and his kingdom to all African leaders, elite, managers and other decision makers;

and to equip and mobilize them to work for the holistic good of their respective countries, and that of the whole African continent. Where needed, Operaf establishes international churches in African capital cities to minister to diplomatic missions, international organizations operating in those countries, and to leaders who are not part of churches. Operaf works in partnership and cooperation with any organization, ministry or church that shares our values and vision. We strive, through Faith, to empower countries throughout the African continent socially, economically and environmentally by enlightened Political Leadership. Operaf currently has a presence in 27 African countries. In line with our motto, Leading by Serving, Operaf initiates and is involved with various practical schemes in African Countries like, for instance, Community Radio projects to educate and uplift rural communities, and Seamstress Skills development courses for pregnant teenage girls (proof of the success of our approach to start from the top, is the fact that the practical lessons in needlework are presented by the wives of the leaders of the countries in which the projects have been initiated.

From the top side, we present 3 day seminars for leaders on good governance and related topics, as well as banquets, breakfast meetings, workshops; and also initiate cell groups.

The proof of the pudding...
